A woman faces assault charges after police say she attacked an elderly woman with a hammer early Saturday morning.
Authorities say it happened about 7:15 a.m. on Line Street NE and Market Street NE. According to Decatur Police, a woman assaulted an elderly woman with a hammer before leaving the scene in a vehicle. Police say a witness reportedly yelled at the woman to stop and then followed her in a vehicle until police arrived.
Police say the elderly woman suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.
Police arrested Mary Hughes in connection with the assault. Hughes was charged with fist-degree assault and was booked into the Morgan County Jail on $50,000 bond.
Hughes was arrested on Aug. 25 in connection with a stabbing 辞苍听Ororke Lane SW. Hughes was charged with domestic violence and released on a $10,000 bond.
