Two people each face bonds worth more than $2 million after a traffic stop in Moulton.
According to the Moulton Police Department, 20-year-old Hannah Brooks and 60-year-old Timothy Rose were both charged with trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Brooks was additionally charged with illegal possession of prohibited liquor, driving with a suspended license, and having a switched tag on her car. Rose was additionally charged with tampering with physical evidence.
On Saturday, a sergeant with the Moulton Police Department observed a blue GMC Sonoma pick-up traveling west on Alabama Highway 24.
The sergeant says he saw the driver of the truck driving erratically. He performed a check on the license plate and was informed the tag came back to a 2022 KIA vehicle, which clearly did not match the vehicle.
The truck turned back eastbound onto County Road 460 and at that time, the sergeant initiated a traffic stop.
After approaching the vehicle, the sergeant identified the driver as Brooks and the passenger as Rose.
Police say Rose kept moving around the front seat area and would not comply with the sergeant’s instructions to stop. Another Moulton officer then arrived to assist, and police say Rose began to reach for something around his leg area.
He was instructed to stop and to step out of the vehicle.
As he was exiting the vehicle, the sergeant says he witnessed Rose drop a clear baggie from his left hand and groin area.
The baggie contained a white substance that police say tested positive for methamphetamine.
When the driver's door was opened and Brooks was stepping out, the sergeant said he saw an open bottle of vodka in the driver's door pocket.
Further investigation revealed the following items in the vehicle:
- A Crown Royal bag that was between the driver and passenger seats that had two baggies containing a crystalline substance.
- A large bag containing a crystalline substance, located in a suitcase.
- A plastic container with three orange round pills and one orange oval pill and a compressed rock-like substance inside the defrost vent of the vehicle.
- Another compressed rock-like substance that was located on the edge of the front passenger seat.
The substances in both baggies located inside the Crown Royal bag, as well as the substance inside the large bag inside the suitcase, field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Police say the two baggies with the compressed rock-type substance field tested positive for fentanyl.
The three orange round pills and the orange oval pill were identified as Buprenorphine Hydrochloride and Naloxone Hydrochloride, which is a controlled substance under the Controlled Substance Act.
Both suspects were transported to Lawrence County Jail without further incident, and they remain there at this time. Rose's bond was set at $2,004,000, and Brooks' bond was set at $2,003,900.
