The Paint Rock Volunteer Fire Department announced that it's hosting a benefit dinner for a family that was involved in a deadly Mother's Day wreck on I-75 near Chattanooga.
Lane Smith, and his son, Sawyer Gene Smith, died as a result of an 18-wheeler slamming into several cars on the interstate. A Georgia man also died in the wreck. Eight others were injured. Two other members of the Smith family were among those injured. The driver of the 18-wheeler is charged with reckless homicide, reckless endangerment, and aggravated assault.
The Paint Rock Volunteer Fire Department will hold a benefit dinner for the Smith family on Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Plates are $20 and include BBQ chick or pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert, and a drink. All proceeds will go to benefit the Smith family.
