The city of Decatur is addressing community concerns over the removal of a dog park at Wilson Morgan Park due to new construction plans.
Residents in Decatur are expressing frustration after the dog parks at Wilson Morgan Park were unexpectedly demolished during recent renovations. The community is now demanding answers and solutions from city officials.
Gilda Turner, a local resident, voiced her discontent, saying, 鈥淲e want our dog park back, we want the people鈥檚 dog park back.鈥
In March 2024, Decatur Parks and Recreation announced plans to remodel Wilson Morgan Park, assuring residents that the dog parks would remain with only minor fencing adjustments. However, a year later, the parks are gone, leaving residents feeling misled.
鈥淎 lot of anger. We don鈥檛 feel like they鈥檝e been honest with us. They tore the park down when they said it was going to be minor realignment, then they said now we can鈥檛 find a place for the dog park here,鈥 Turner said.
Although a new dog park is under construction at Wolverine Park near Point Mallard, Turner suggests using unused spaces on the current property for the parks.
Councilman Hunter Pepper tells 性视界传媒 31 he's working to find alternative solutions.
鈥淭he goal that I have in tackling this mission is to create a either at this location or at a surrounding location, somewhere close by, for a large and small dog park that way we can appease these individuals and let them bring out their animals and let them have some fun,鈥 said Pepper.
Pepper plans to address this issue at the next council meeting.聽
