Athens Fire & Rescue workers help deliver baby

Athens Fire & Rescue crews helped a woman give birth to a baby girl.

Rescue workers in Athens helped deliver a baby Wednesday morning.

According to Athens Fire & Rescue, they got a call about a 40-weeks pregnant woman who was in labor just after 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters Scott Jackson and Neil Gooch along with AEMTs Garrett Grimsely and David McDaniel responded to the call. When they arrived at the home, they found the baby already on the way and proceeded to coach the woman through proper breathing techniques and then secured the baby's airway.

The mother and baby girl were taken to Madison Hospital where they were reported to be in good condition.
